Review:

Nose: fruity - first apple, then maybe a hint of banana(?), malty notes, more tropical fruit - something zingy and vibrant. Did I mention the malt?

Palate: Bang. More alcohol sensation than you'd expect from the 40%!! Powerful but not overpowering, complex yet articulate - you can pick out all those fruit and oaky notes. There is a lot going in here and you sense you could taste this tomorrow and pick out another set of flavours.

Finish: early fruitiness giving way to surprisingly long & savoury woodiness with just hint (the right hint) of bitter charcoal.

Balance: exceptional.

I succumbed to something of a sweet tooth over the festive period and was drinking some sweet and spicy little numbers. Now, although the winter isn't over, I've been looking forward to some dryer drams. Having said that I haven't been in the mood for my usual Islay smoky favourites so this, and the Glenmorangie 10 I've been enjoying of late, are a nice half way house until the weather gets warmer and we start trying to decide on the perfect summer whisky (again). It has a delightful fruity sweetness but a lightness of touch that prevents the sugars from taking over. And there is so much going on I might have to review it again in a week.

Outstanding.
