The Glenlivet: 'the Single Malt that started it all'. That's how Glenlivet promotes it's Scotch.

And I'm sure they have a right to do so, especially when I nosed my Glenlivet 12 Year Old French Oak Finish. This whisky was finished in French Limousin oak (this is a wine that is produced in the Dordogne in France).

The nose is amazing. Very sweet with green and red apples, pears and some honey and oak. Almost like putting your nose in a bowl of fruit salad.

It is round and velvety on the palate, again with sweetness (fruits) and some nutty and spicy tones - even a whiff of chocolate. But that doesn't mean it's great. I have to admit that I expected more after the fantastic nose. The taste let me down a bit.

The finish is clean, but shortlived.

The body is rich and the color a deep, full gold.

The bottle is no longer a part of the range of The Glenlivet and was replaced by a 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve.
