The classic Glenmorangie 10 Year Old got a finish of 2 extra years in wine casks from Côte de Baune, the southern wine region of the Côte d'Or (the northern region is called Côte de Nuits). To situate this region: we are south of Dijon and north of Lyon in the Departement Rhône. The bottle was released in 2003 and is now very hard to come by.

Nice, round and sweet nose with a whole bouquet of flowers (without becoming perfumy), succulent honey and apricots. Plum pie. The red wine is present, but the nose is nicely balanced.

On the palate it is round and sweet as well, but also quite spicy. Think vanilla, ginger and liquorice. A touch of pepper as well. The wine is more prevalent now. The apricots are joined by strawberries and blueberries. It gets a slight sour edge. And it becomes a tad dry. Rosehip tea?

The finish is fairly long and becomes quite spicy yet again.

Far from bad – certainly on the nose – but I have had quite a lot of better wine finishes as well, even from Glenmorangie.
