This Glenmorangie was finished on Burgundy wine casks. The only other whisky I’ve had likei t was the BenRiach 17 Year Old Burgundy Wood Finish, which I did not like all that much. Let us see if Glenmorangie fares any better.

The nose is very sweet with orangettes (orange gum in pure chocolate), honey, cake and something that reminds of rosehip. That must be the wine influence. Caramel and strawberries after a few minutes. I must admit, it is not bad at all.

The palate is somewhat light and unfortunately a bit sourish. The wine takes the upper hand. Behind that I get some crystallized sugar and malt, rhubarb marmalade and honey. But the wine kills the slightly peppered taste.

The finish is spicy and somewhat long. The wine fades at the end and allows the fruit to mercifully rear its head.

This used to be about 40 EUR, but it is not a bad thing that you can no longer fin dit. There is much better stuff out there on the market. This sort of whisky tells me again why I have a love-hate relationship with wine finishes.
