This Italian Wilson & Morgan bottled its 8th Glenrothes this year, a 14 Year Old that was finished on sweet Marsala wine casks from Sicily. Marsala is a fortified wine, not unlike port, Madeira or sherry. So I am expecting a very sweet dram.

I am not disappointed on the nose. About the sweetness, I mean. The wine is honeysweet and very prominent. Still, it allows for the other aromas to shine through, such as white chocolate and almonds. Raisins and apricots. Apple pie. Butterscotch and quite a bit of smoke. Honeysweet, like I said.

Between oily and creamy on the palate. Now it is becoming extremely sweet. The wine is a bit over the top, for me. There is little place for other flavours. Only the apricots can surface. A good spiciness with a surprising twist of celery salt.

The medium long finish is drying.

This is more a Marsala wine with a Glenrothes finish rather than the other way around. Have it as an aperif of with pie. But not really my cup of tea.
