The Scottish Weekend in Alden-Biezen (Belgium) took place for the 30th time this year. That was celebrated with a festival bottling: a 16 Year Old Glenturret. One of the 750 bottles was open at the Antwerp Whisky Festival where I scored my sample.

Lemon, gooseberries, vanilla and – most of all – a truckload of caramel. That is this Glenturret’s nose in a nutshell. Underneath I get some creamy white chocolate. Mildly spicy.

It is fresh and oily at the same time. Immediately a prickly pepper appears, before the fruit shines through. I think a sherry cask was in the mix, as I get nice touches of oranges, raisins and apricots. On the palate, it does a lot more than the nose promised. Nice. And a fine drinking strength too.

The finish is rather short, but wonderfully fresh and fruity.

Nice festival bottling that the middle of the road whiskylover (no offense!) will surely enjoy. Bottles were sold at the festival for 65 EUR.
