I tried this Czech for the first time in June 2011 when returning from Scotland at the World of Whiskies shop in the airport of Glasgow. It is distilled from 100% Czech barley and matured for 20 years in Czech oak barrels. 100% Czech, I would say. The name Hammerhead is derived from the hammer mill that is used to grind the barley.

The nose is very perfumy. Loads of fresh flowers, vanilla and pears. Very much a liqueur, I feel. Pear and plum liqueur. Not really my cup of tea.

It is very oily to syrupy and spicy. Aniseed (lots of it!) and cinnamon, white pepper and some vanilla. Then it is back to the plum liqueur. It also has hints of bergamot and honey.

The finish is spicy and long and remains honeysweet.

This is more a liqueur than a whisky. But it is a lot better than that other Czech whisky, Gold Cock (what is in a name?). The Swedish Systembolaget took this Hammerhead from the shelves as it would be hazardous for your health. Doh?
