Another Hanyu, this from a Sherry Butt, and another 'Noh' bottling- and poor review titles aside...

Nose: Rich and a bit woody, it's the ash influence. Apple (red and a few green), sandalwood. Then it turns to fruit: dates, figs, and mince pie filling. Slight hint of salted, raw, and thinly cut meat (not quite a beefy ceviche). Waxy with dried fruit niblets, and some sliced nuts. Great stuff. (with water) No, not great, this is fabulous! Caramel, thick dark rum, dried fruit, honey, cinnamon, candied wood, tree sap, brown sugar glaze. Dense and rich!

Palate: Thick and a touch syrupy and oily. Intriguing. Rather medicinal, cherry cough syrup. Smoked meat, thick fruit compote, cedar humidor, and shredded ginger. Complex and dense all through. (with water) Lighter than on the nose here. Honey, woods, nuts. Oak is a bit more prominent, and a touch much at times. Still solid, if not simple. Cinnamon, pepper, and spice.

Finish: Brown baking spice, buttery baked-good bitterness, oak, and honey. A smidge of bacon in there, with some more smokiness. The palate is better neat, but the nose is just phenomenal with water. There really is something to these 'Noh' bottlings, isn't there? Just touching in at A-
