Today, I am going back into time to put two independent bottlings of Highland Park head-to-head, both from 1998. Let me start with this Smoking Buffalo 2nd Edition, in honour of AA Gent, a local football club, bottled by The Bonding Dram. The competition is also a Highland Park from 1998, bottled a year later by Single Malt Waasland, a local whiskyclub.

The nose of this Smoking Buffalo is sweet on crystal sugar, heather and hints of banana. Some dried flowers as well (violets?) and some red fruit. Pears, too. A very clear touch of white chocolate. Slightly smoky. Very nice indeed.

On the palate, it is very mouth coating and spicy. Pepper, heather, honey and licquorice. Again a light smokiness.

The finish is medium long, with the wonderful Orkney peat, a salty touch and spices.

A great Highland Park that needs no water whatsoever.
