A.D. Rattray often succeeds in bottling beautiful single casks. Or what to think of this one? A 22 Year Old Highland Park, distilled on 3rd December 1990 and bottled on 17th April 2013 after a long sleep of 22 years on a sherry butt. Something tells me this is going to be good.

Sturdy and sweet nose on candied oranges and hazelnuts, but also hints of nougat and heather. The peat is discrete, the smoke minimal. Fresh figs, a grassy note and some heather turn this into a very balanced nose.

The attack is powerful and spicy, immediately honeysweet. Apart from the fruit some hints of espresso with whipped cream, sugared apple skins and even some chocolate emerge. Tobacco as well. Cinnamon and cloves. Wonderful!

The finish is fairly long, sweet and spicy and remains juicy until the death.

Boy, what a wonderful Highland Park. Available for 150 EUR. Worth every penny if you ask me.
