Invergordon is a fairly young distillery, founded in 1959, a proverbial stone’s throw away from Glenmorangie and Dalmore. We are trying a 25 Year Old single cask of the grain whisky, distilled in 1988, bottled this year by A.D. Rattray.

Very pleasant and creamy nose, but I cannot identify it as a grain whisky. Quite herbal. Loads of green herbs in combination with bown sugar, Brésilienne nuts and whipped cream. Hardly any spices to speak of. After a few moment, a lot of candied fruit kicks in, without me being able to pinpoint any. Apricots maybe? This is very interesting.

It is very creamy on the palate, on spicy oak. Now it reminds me of bourbon. The whipped cream returns, but now on a cup of coffee. Maybe even some coconut and chocolate. A wonderful smokiness appears. That must be from the oak.

The smokiness is even more pronounced in the long finish, to completely wrap around the honey and candied fruit.

Yes, I am very much impressed with this Invergordon, I must say.
