Invergordon 48 Year Old 1964 Scott’s Selection

Scott’s Selection has bottled quite a few single grain from 1964 already. I’ve tried their Port Dundas, Caledonian and Girvan from that year. The single grain I am trying today was produced by Invergordon, a grain distillery in the northern Highlands, built in 1959 and property of Whyte & Mackay. The whisky matured for 48 years. It is surprisingly dark and clings to the glass.

The nose is soft and sweet, with quite a big hint of milk! I did you not. Ordinary, full milk. Then some honey and white fruit and not much else, but it works like a charm. Creamy grain whisky. Hints of coconut and absolutely devoid of spice or tannins. This is very, very soft. White chocolate and vanilla slowly but surely surface. Hints of exotic fruits, albeit far in the back.

Nicely creamy on the palate with a lot of coconut. Very light, though. Reminds me somewhat of a white rum. Malibu? Anyway, very quaffable and very pleasant.

The finish is somewhat short, but wonderfully sweet.

Rather simple, but in a weird way that I cannot explain, I love it. Around 150 EUR, which may be cheap for a 48 Year Old whisky, but is a tad too expensive for what you really get tastewise.
