Crested Ten

Crested Ten has been around since 1963 and was the first Jameson to be bottled at the distillery when back when. It is a mix of 60% pot still whiskey and 40% grain whiskey. It is older than 10 years (a mistake often made due to the name of the bottling).

Mildly creamy nose on loads of honey, citrus and heather. Some oatmeal. Lemongrass. Fanta. Leaf of mint.

It is spicy and sweet on the palate, but a little too sweet to my taste. Becomes a bit bourbonny. Must be the grain in the mix. Lightly floral. I am reminded of lilac, which is always a bit tricky for me. Orange zest. A bit of toasted oak. Cloves and cinnamon point out the sherry casks in this blend.

The finish is surprisingly long on cloves and oranges.

It is not that easy to find outside of Ireland, I have been told. But I do not believe it to be a great loss. Just under 30 EUR.
