This Spring 2010 expression matured on ex-bourbon casks from Buffalo Trace for 3 years, before getting a finish of 3 months in hyperactive oloroso sherry casks (it's got the the color to prove it). Then it was vatted with 4 Year Old refill bourbon casks before being cut to the drinking strength of 46% ABV.

The nose immediately takes you to the farm. Cow hide, peat, lime, woodsmoke and warm, dark fruit. A hint of caramel and candid sugar, but also a bit of lamp oil.

It's very creamy and fruity on the palate. Very peaty, indeed. But also very sweet. Toffee and olive oil. A battle of salt againt sweet - but sweet prevails.

The finish is a long, warm, intense mixture of sweet peat and sherry. Marvelous.

This is a very appealing, fruity Kilchoman, that hides its young age well. Contrary to Oil of Olaz, where one tries to look younger, this dram succeeds in masking its young age and appear much more mature. Oil of Islay, anyone?

My favourite of the kilchoman releases by a long way, the 3 months in sherry worked wonders. Looking forward to the full sherried CS version later this year.
