In 1962, the Knockando Distillery came into the hands of United Wine Traders, with operational management shifting to Justerini & Brooks – that’s right, the producers of the famous J&B blend, of which Knockando is an important ingredient. Today we try the 15 Year Old, a mix of bourbon and sherry casks, distilled in 1995.

Very sweet nose on (loads of) caramel, semoule and a handful of nuts. Gooseberries and dandelions. Overripe apples. Something of pastry in the background. A bit dusty as well. Not much going on, though, to be completely honest.

It starts off rather flat on the palate. Even a touch sour. That is a bit of a let down. The apples return as does a dollop of caramel for a big sweetness, but it remains superficial and does not seem to want to develop. The dustiness translates into some wet cardboard, which is not to my liking.

The finish is medium long, spicy, but does die a rather bitter death.

Pity, but this bottle really does not suit me. Let down.
