Tasting Notes by markjedi1

Hmmm, a young Laphroaig on sherry? Have not had too many of those. But then, this is only my 14th Laphroaig and it is a young animal from the stables of Malts of Scotland.

On the nose, the typical Laffie traits are instantly discernable: seaweed, iodine, peat smoke. But the sherry cask immediately makes it contribution in the form of a dark, sweet touch: old leather, prune compote and blood oranges. In the background a hint of cow-hide.

On the palate, the sherry cask takes the lead and releases sweet honey and again blood oranges (but stewed this time), sprinkled with some warming spices, before the classic Laffie can make itself known. Very smoky stuff, with a sweet twist. With water… I have no idea. This is so drinkable neat.

The long and smoky finish ends with a salty touch.

This is a rather atypical Laphroaig, but a very, very good one. Price tag: 75 EUR. This one is going under the Christmas tree!
