Linkwood 1975 26 Year Old

At the beginning of the century, Diageo launched the popular series Rare Malts. This Linkwood from 1975 is one of those (there are in fact several Linkwood bottled in this Rare Malts series). You can still find it left and right for around 200 EUR.

The nose is very waxy (beeswax) with a hefty helping of vanilla custard and citrus peel. Very grainy, as well. Flowers. Oleander! Honey and berry marmelade. Typical Speysider. After a few moments, the juicy fruit takes the shape of tangerines. Nice touch of mint. Fresh and pleasant to smell. Water changes little, except make it a bit sweeter.

It is creamy at the attack, with a return of the floral elements, supported by vanilla and oak. Very spicy. Midpalate, it becomes very drying. Pretty alcoholic, too. Adding water brings out the flowers, which I do not regards as an advantage.

The finish is long and spicy with the emphasis on citrus fruits, even diluted.

The nose needed time, but opened up nicely. The palate is well balanced, turning this into a lovely Linkwood. I preferred it without water.
