Some independent bottlers choose to release casks from Saint Magdalene under the name of the city in which is was founded: Linlithgow. This one is 18 years old and bottled by Scott’s Selection. Oddly enough the label states that the whisky matured on Oakwood Casks. Well, what else? Judging from thhe color, this was a bourbon cask.

The nose is surprisingly soft on mostly citrus. Lemon, lime and a bit of mandarin. A lot of grass and hints of white fruit. A trace of smoke from the oak. Vanilla slowly but surely breaks through.

On the palate, this St Magdalene is a lot more aggressive. Pretty spicy as well, with white pepper and licquorice. The grass becomes hay, the citrus remains but becomes a tad zesty. Nice.

The finish is fairly long and turns the mouth completely dry.

Nice St Magdalene. Thanks, Arnout, for the sample.
