Longmorn can be found in the heart of Speyside, right next to BenRiach. We saw, during our visit of the distillery in 2010, that they even share warehouses. Gordon & Macphail, be well known bottler from Elgin (which is not much further down the road, actually), has bottled quite a few Longmorn already. Today I will try the entry level version of 12 years old, matured on first fill and refill sherry casks.

The nose is fresh and very aromatic with mostly oranges, prunes, pink lady apples and almonds, the whole covered in a thick layer of honey. Hints of orangettes. Mildly floral. Think buttercups.

Medium body and wonderfully soft on the palate. Orange cake, softly burnt grain, orange blossom honey. A nice whiff of smoke. The buttercups return. Some figs join is, as does a hint of banana. It is even a bit rum-like.

The finish is almost long, with more honey and spices, ending in a mildly drying note.

A 12 Year Old whisky is often thought of as an entry level malt or standard stuff. This Longmorn is an exception to that rule. Terrific stuff! Around 40 EUR, which really is not expensive.
