Tasting Notes by markjedi1
In the newest release from Archives, the bottlings from Whiskybase, you will also find a Longmorn. It matured for 19 years on a bourbon cask and was bottled at 48,5% ABV. Only 60 bottles. Where is the rest of the cask, I wonder.
It is pretty light and rather mineral on the nose. Flints? Some fruit is trying to break through. Citrus, peach, gooseberry. But the high note is almond paste. A bit of beeswax, too. Vanilla that is getting louder by the minute. Freshly cut grass and a leaf of mint. Nice, but I am not yet on fire.
It is pretty spicy on the attack. Cloves, cinnamon and a pinch of salt. Then the fruit shines through with primarily oranges and gooseberries. The vanilla is even louder than on the nose. Slightly drying.
The finish, which is medium in length, remains sweet, warm and turns the mouth completely dry.
Menno and his crew have selected a nice cask of this Speysider. A true summerdram and affordable too, for a 19 Year Old single cask: 70 EUR.
