Malts of Scotland has already 5 casks of Longmorn under their belt. This was one of the first they ever bottled, now some three years ago. This bourbon cask yielded 122 bottles after 36 long years of maturation. It was distilled in March 1975 and bottled in May 2011.
Very fruit and ‘yellow’ nose, if you get my meaning. Reminds me somewhat of candy, like those pineapple cubes. But also Doyenné du Comice pears. And then a truckload of vanilla. You can truly smell the oak here. Planks? In the distance, though. After a few moments, some oranges join in. Quite pleasant.
It is very soft and creamy and utterly spicy on the palate. Reminds me of Oriental spices, I must say. Something from a Thai restaurant. What?! Yep, I am not making this up (well, actually I am, but you know what I mean). Then the fruit joins in with the oranges in the lead, flanked by some yellow plums. Towards the end, it becomes somewhat dry on oak.
The finish is quite long on the same spices that simply will not budge.
This is certainly not a bad whisky, far from it, but it does not come close to the Longmoren 1976 that Malts of Scotland bottled last year, cask #MoS13029.

@Markjed1 Another nice review. Could the Thaï spices be some star anis and soya sauce, because star anis, soya and plum are notes I am familiar with when it comes to Longmorn. Or maybe you get some green pepper or basilic, both could come out Thaï and have an anis twist. In any case and in a strange way this 36 yo seems more Longmornish to me than the 23 yo you just reviewed. But at the end, the important thing is that you like both.
