Tasting Notes by Falk

Red is a series of Longrow bottlings finished in red wine casks. This is the 4th expression matured in Bourbon Casks for 11 Years and finished in Fresh Pinot Noir Casks from New Zealand for another 12 Months. 9000 Bottles of this were released just recently (i.e. September 2015 if I’m not wrong).

As many of you will know, less than 100 Casks of the peated Longrow are filled each year. I must say that I really enjoy what the guys at Springbank are doing, and Longrow is increasingly becoming a favourite of mine…

Colour: polished Mahogany

Nose: Old wood, Minerals, Cranberries, Gooseberries. The Alcohol is clearly there, but not unpleasant. With water there is sweetness coming out, spice, Herbs (lovage!?) furniture polish. The peat is kept in check by the fruitiness.

On the palate there is spice and licorice. It’s mouth coating and dry. With water there’s a little more licorice and a hint of limestone, but the palate doesn’t change much with water.

The finish is long and dry with licorice and limestone.

Comments: A very nice wine cask finished Dram that appears older than it is. Last Year’s Port version was more to my liking though.
