This Miltonduff has spent more than a decade in the bottle and matured for 35 years before that. It was distilled before I was born and bottled under the famous banner Old Malt Cask. Since the split of the Douglas Laing company, OMC is no longer part of Fred Laing’s company, but part of his brother Stewart’s new company Hunter Laing & Co. This one, of course, was bottled when everything was still love and peace between the brothers (and according to Fred and Stewart, it still is, so no worries).

Ooh, this nose is very aromatic and round. Fruity is the key word, although it does show a dirty edge (which sounds bad, but is not!). Something of diesel fumes enveloping the sweet fruit. Oranges and even some mango. Floral too. Buttercups and dandelions. Dollop of vanilla. Very special! The citrus soon starts to dominate, which is no punishment. Great nose!

It is soft on the palate. Immediately very fruity on all kinds of citrus. Think blood oranges, mildly bitter Seville oranges, grapefruit, but also passion fruit and mango. Wow! Nicely spicy too, but very fresh for a 35 Year Old. The oak makes for good balance. I am a fan!

The finish is medium long onn orange liqueur and white pepper.

What a good thing that this cask did not disappear into the Ballantine’s blend, for it is marvellous! Unfortunately very hard to find nowadays (sorry).
