This Old Perth is a blended malt, so no grain whisky came near this one. It is commercialized by Carn Mor, famous for its single cask bottlings. The company was named Scottish Liqueur Centre until very recently, but was renamed Morrison & MacKay a short while ago. According to several sources, this blended malt contains Aultmore, Mortlach, Tomatin and Ben Nevis. Perth, by the way, lies a little north of Edinburgh on the river Tay in the heart of Scotland. It was once the capital of the country. But this aside.

Fairly malty nose on mild spices from the wood, some toffee and baked apples. Hint of smoke in the background. Roasted Brésilienne nuts. Nice, but quite sweet.

It becomes a tad more bitter on the palate than anticipated, but within the acceptable. Again a big sweetness, which not only reminds me of fruit, but also of chocolate. The spiciness is quite prominent now, with pepper in the lead, followed by ginger. Reminds me somewhat of Christmas cake, with candeed fruit and nuts. This is actually quite good and punchy for only 43% ABV.

In the medium long, peppery finish, some cinnamon rears its head.

Summer dram. Not even 30 EUR. Bang for your buck.
