Pittyviach, founded in 1975, is one of those very short-lived distilleries. Open for only 18 years, can you imagine? There is whisky available from this distillery that is older than the lifespan of the distillery itself, the Pittyviach 20 Year Old. Anyway, this one was distilled in 1993, the year of closure, and bottled by Gordon & Macphail under their Connoisseurs Choice label at 43%.

The nose is rather young on yeast and grist. Some lime peel, apple juice and vanilla biscuits. Peanuts. Touch of smoke. Garden herbs. Dried grass. Somewhat underwhelming.

It is soft (make that light) at first. A bit more fresh and sweet now. Sugared pear. Sugar candy? More spices, now. Some white pepper pushes forward.

The rather short finish brings back pears and pepper, as well as that tiny bit of smoke.

This is all very light and unimpressive, though. Thanks, Arnout, for the sample.
