Eighteen months ago I took part in a Douglas of Drumlanrig tasting in Gent, but this Port Ellen lacked in the line-up. I do not need to tell you that 1983 is the year in which the distillery closed, right? So this is one of the last casks that was filled.

Nice mineral and salty nose with underneath some Granny Smith apples and something yeasty. Bit dirty nose, actually. Fatty, too. Almond paste! Lots of coastal elements, too, but hardly any fruit or vanilla to speak of. Rather atypical.

On the palate, I get a lot of salt, nuts, lime and apple. The smoke is rather soft, the peat is pretty sweet. This one does not need water.

In the particularly long finish, something very sweet emerges. Vanilla and honey, I would say.

Nice but not too outspoken PE.

Nice review markjedi1. I almost pull the trigger on this a while back, I kinda feel glad I didn't. I guest the workers At the time were dragging their feet.
