In this case, Malts of Scotland leaves no doubt about the pedigree of this single malt. This Port Ellen was distilled in 1982 and bottled in 2013. So this is what? 31 years old? This is going to be a party, is it not?

Soft, creamy and sweet nose with just a subtle hint of Islay, but mostly honey, butter, vanilla and sugarcoated orange peel. Apple cider. Banana. Hints of candied syrup. Garden herbs. Wet rocks. The peat is supportive. I could swear this was a sherry cask.

Soft arrival that becomes sweet from the get go. Ha! Wonderful yellow fruits, loads of honey, banana, orange zest and all this wrapped in a wonderful smoky and salty blanket. Sensual and round.

The peat rears its head one more time in the medium long finish. Wonderfully smoky.

Outstanding, as was to be expected. 480 EUR is quite expensive, but then again, this is a grand Port Ellen.
