Do you really think the Royal Family selected this whisky from the warehouses of the Speyside Distillery? I do not think so. It is a combination of the oldest sherry casks they still had (which can be up to a quarter century, considering that the first spirit flowed from the stills in 1990).

Round, fruity and feisty nose filled with toffee, sultanas, mandarins and juicy peach. The nose even becomes a bit creamy and a tad dry (is that possible?). Toffee keeps it sweet. This is Speyside at its best (I mean the distillery, not the region)!

Nicely oily on the palate. Honeysweet on all kinds of fruit, both yellow and dark, if you catch my meaning. The sherry is very outspoken with raisins, plums, peach and so forth. A bit of a marmalade of Seville oranges. Some grapefruit. Lovely spices. This is actually very nice indeed!

The finish can easily be termed long. After the feisty spices (pepper, cloves and a pinch of nutmeg) fade, it becomes silky soft.

This would be perfect with a little stew, I would say. Truly lovely Spey whisky. Around 200 EUR (ahem!), but you do get a nice wooden chest with a certificate.

Only tried their Drumguish once, thereafter I decided to never touch one of their bottles again. Your reviews today might change that, though I could easily waste that kind of money on more notable releases from other distilleries. Thanks
