I have been told that the Campeltown Loch is the only whisky that offers you a taste of 30 years old Springbank. Apart from that it also contains some old North Port, Ardmore, Tomatin, Glen Garioch, Ardbeg and Glen Grant with regards to malts and 30 years old grain from Girvan. I honestly expected this to contain only Campbeltown whisky, but apparently that is not the case. No matter.

The nose starts off rather sweet on malt, peach, oranges and kiwi. Loads of floral elements as well. Dried citrus, honey and oak. Becomes somewhat softer and creamy on caramel and banana. Nice nose.

It is a bit light on the palate. Both body and taste. Some white fruit, tinned pineapple, mildly bitter fruit tea. Touch of mint. Reminds me a bit of an eau-de-vie, I must confess. Some cardamom and a pinch of white pepper. Pith. Kernel from an apple.

The finish makes up for things, for that is spicy and very long.

Good beginning and good ending, but it disappoints in the middle. Maybe this should have (if it could have) been bottled at 46%?
