This is my first review of a bottle that has been opened for a year. It is now half empty and the batch number is 96. It has been distilled the 10/10/10 (no jokes).

The nose is very sweet with a lot of tropical fruit, mainly banana, and nail polish. There is a hint of herbal nose if you don't try to find it because if you push it by inhaling this the fruity sugar cover everything. Same thing for the spices. A year ago the nail polish was stronger and the banana less powerfull and that was it.

The palate is way more complex than the nose and than a year ago. The malt was not even part of the taste a year ago, it was all simple wood, nail polish and banana. Now the tropical salad gives me a great peppery mango. Even the oak seems to give more of its charred caractere now. It used to make me think of white oak, but now, with is rich body, this white oak turn progressively into a dark yellow one.

Because of this rich body, you don't know when the palate end and when the finish starts but what is sure is this over ripe peaches in heavy syrup finish is staying for a very long time before the banana comes back in the background.

This is a one way whisky. The fruit are taking charge leaving no place or almost no place for the wood spices and the malt. But those fruits are damn good, and after a year the malt is making an attemp to come back. In the same category of whisky, I do prefer the Glendronach Virgin Oak for its malt and because it is less sweet, but for the boldness of its fruits and its origins, the Stranahan is a must try.

@Robert99. Good review, solid appraisal. I agree with the nail polish but not in a good way. I bought 2 bottles of this a few years ago and have one unopened open one left. Not sure if I will ever open it, might trade it. It's a malt whiskey but not made like a scotch, doesn't taste like scotch, not a bourbon at all. What is it? I do commend Stranahan's for doing there own thing and we would never evolve new whiskey without people trying. That being said, as a consumer on a budget, I'm not a fan but keep trying please. Try a Port cask.
