From a sample with 43% ABV. The Lost Distillery Company was established with the aim to recreate modern expressions of whiskies from long lost distilleries in Scotland. In order to come up with individual whisky profiles that are as authentic as possible, the team at The Lost Distillery Company has chosen an approach that combines meticulous historical research performed by archivists with the interpretation of modern-day whisky makers. The company uses neither chill-filtration nor caramel colouring as these techniques were unknown and not used within the whisky industry at the time. Their Jericho Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is the fourth release in the series and pays tribute to Jericho distillery that was located near Insch in Aberdeenshire and operated between 1822 and 1913.

The nose starts with distinct notes of rubber (but in a good way), then brings on rich flavours of prunes and raisins, followed by liquorice, orange peel, and marzipan. Lovely!

The palate is full-bodied and warming. The rubber notes are back, together with flavours of prunes, raspberries, and soft wood spice. Towards the end there is ground coffee and a good dose of balsamic vinegar.

The finish is of medium length, warming and dry. Notes of rubber and wood spice are back and last to the very end.

The nose is the part that I like best with this blend: it is both well balanced and rich in different flavours - really well done. The palate was off to an equally promising start when I hit upon the balsamic vinegar flavours that I am not very fond of and without which I would have given this a higher score. Another well crafted blend from the Lost Distillery Company and just a notch below the other releases.
