Tasting Notes by markjedi1

Under the Tyrconnell label (named after a horse that won a famous race against all odds), Cooley brings us several expressions. Aside from their single malt, they also have three wood finished (madeira, port and sherry). Today we'll try the 15 Year Old Single Cask.

Wonderful nose! A whole pie of fruits with vanilla custard at the base. Banana, apple, pear, berry, plum... even a touch of kiwi, coconot and mint. Give this one some time to develop, because it keeps getting better.

Quite oily on the palate and mouthcoating. It's the spices that appear first, immediately followed by a whole range of fruits. Licquorice, apricots, kiwi. Reminds me a little of Austrian schnapps too. This is an exotic fruit bomb. Magnificent.

The finish is spicy and wonderfully long. Damn, a lot of people say Irish whiskey is for beginners because of it's simplicity, accessability and softness. This Irish animal is anything but simple. Quite complex in fact. Very good.

Good review Mark, will you be comparing this to the standard Tyrconnell Single Malt?

If I can get my hands on it, sure. For now, I've only tried the wood finishes, the Madeira being my fav (check it out at http://www.connosr.com/reviews/tyrconnell/tyrconnell-10-year-old-madeira-finish/madeira-mama/).
