A new Belgian bottler has arrived on the scene and the name is Double-V – I presume the owners’ last names starting with the letter v has a lot to do with that. These pals seem to be crazy about cycling, cooking with a Green Egg and… whisky. In the last few years, they’ve invested in casks that they now plan to release bit by bit. Their Tomatin matured for 9 years on a rum cask from Guadaloupe. It was distilled in 4th May 2011 (funny detail: the label says ‘mai’ in French) and bottled on the 15th June 2020.

Creamy and fruity nose on banana, quince, nettles, mint, molasses and err… coffee liqueur. Playful and sweet, but clearly quite young.

On the palate too it is very creamy, almost syrupy. Now it turns into banana liqueur with lots of white pepper in the mix. Gasping for breath there for a minute. The mint returns, but also something green but undefined which makes me raise my eyebrows. The rum has clearly put its foot down, for it dominates.

The finish is very long, almost piquant, but also honey-sweet.

This is the kind of whisky that I dare present with some vanilla ice cream. Just try it, you’ll thank me later. Only just released, so you should still be able to find it. Around 70 EUR. Thank to The Bonding Dram for the sample.
