What is the next bottle you will buy or open? For me I will be opening my Glenfiddich 18 and writing a review on this site, and for the bottle to purchase I will be aquiring the Glenfarclas 40yo

Think I might open my 1993 Lagavulin DE this weekend. Been sitting on it for about 6 months now. Then I think I will pick up a couple of bottles of JW Green while they are still around. Might just be the best thing JW has done, at least since the '60s and '70s Black Label. Might spring for another Gold too if I'm feeling extravagent. It's a good one too and apparently it is also on the way out.

Hey man if your in Glasgow I strongly recommend that you pop into both the Pot Still and the Bon Accord for a few drams. Also when your at in Duty free the new "travel" range of Auchentoshan are really good for the money @markjedi1

Just found a gift pack of Glenrothes at a bottle shop that I'd gone into to see if they stocked any of my beer. Has Glenrothes Select Reserve (not sure of the year, but I assume recent) Glenrothes 1995 and Glenrothes 1998 along with 3 glencairn shotglasses!

@maltster: I've no idea what's what in Toronto but my eyes are always on the 'scan' for any Springbank C/S especially the lovely 12yo. - The Glengoyne C/S @ 12yo. is not far behind and (at times), can be as good or better! I have a Talisker 57deg. open at present and it is very good indeed; the longer it's open the better it gets. It started out as a litre from Duty Free. It is now about 1/2 a 200ml. bot. and has mellowed out superbly.

Cheers!

@maltster maybe something from Forty Creek‚ say the Double Barrel or the Confederation Oak. Maybe you guys from Ontario are out for a suggestion...

@maltster - Danfield's Limited Edition 21 year is quite good (just ask @victor), and widely available at the LCBO. I'd seriously consider it over Forty Creek.

Decided to take a bit of a risk and purchased some Kilchoman on eBay. A few of my friends have bought hard-to-find whiskies through the auction site, but I'm leary of buying anything sight unseen. I found the 2010 Winter Release for $45USD, which even with shipping is a great deal. The reviewer has sold several bottles of it, alongside many many other whiskies, and has good reviews so I'm hoping for the best! I tried this particular Kilchoman release on a visit to the distillery, and I've had it on my wishlist ever since. I also just picked up the NAS Machir Bay, and it'll be really fun to do a side-by-side tasting.

@Mack are you getting the aged or unaged? I haven't found any unaged whiskey that's appealed to me. How about you? Racer 5 is easily in my top 5 favorite beers, so for that alone the whiskey deserves a taste! I have to admit I'm curious, but I'd have to try at a dram somewhere before picking up a bottle. Now to find some bar to stock Charbay... :) I'm glad they're releasing bottles priced significantly lower than their $250+ expressions.

I just opened a 50ml bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label. I bought it last week at the same time that I bought a bottle of Johnnie Walker Green Label.

I've already opened the Green and found it to very drinkable, perhaps dangerously so. The Black? Not so much. I left it in a Glencairn glass for about 10 minutes, which is when the alcohol was no longer prominent on the nose. It's not bad, but not great. The Talisker influence seems too strong in the Black.

I also compared the JW Black with Black Bull 12 and Highland Park 12. The Black Bull 12 seems like a much better balanced blend, although the flavor profile is different in it's Highlands carmel way. The HP 12, which has been half-full and untouched for months, trumps both. The HP 12's flavor profile strikes me as being in the ballpark of the JWs with a touch of smoke and pepper, although less sweet.

I'll have to spend some time with the HP 12 and JW Green to see if the Green is replaceable, or if Diageo is making a grave mistake.

Yesterday my work took me a few hours from home to a lab in OKC I hadn't used before. About a block away I noticed a decent sized, but sorta run-down looking, liquor store. Of course I had to investigate to see what I could find.

I finally, after looking for months in countless stores, found some Weller 12. They had 5 bottles, I snagged them all. They also had 1 bottle of Wild Turkey Rye 101 ($17!!) that I promptly grabbed as well to add to the others I have bunkered. I also grabbed a 1.75L OWA that was very dusty & had the age statement on the label, "Seven Summers Old" and all that.

My REAL find (as in standing there looking at it on the shelf in stunned disbelief) was a lone bottle of Glenmorangie Sonalta PX. I've been on the hunt for one of these for almost a year & had never seen one in the wild. I made the mistake of waiting too long to try to get one when they were available...now they seem to be all but gone. I made sure I didn't make that same mistake with Astar, Finealta, or Artein.

I walked out of there with my finds, giggling like a little girl!

Good lord, I think I have a whisky problem :) I've been "stumbling upon" great deals all over the place, and it's hard to say no. A favorite retailer of mine decided to close out a case or so of Bruichladdich's Golder Still for $149, and good thing my credit card number is saved on my online account, because it sold out in half an hour.
