@Jean-Luc It's Batch number 22. Apparently the one sold here in sweden for the moment.

Batch 22 eh? We seem to be on batch 28 in the larger shops here...

I thought I would get a higher number, but the batch 22 is what is sold here in Sweden ...

Well Cave, as far as I am concerned. Different releases of the same sort. It will differ from time to time, from release to release. Correct me if I'm wrong. (Pardon if my english is a little bit bad.)

Is that for all malts ? Or is it something specially for the Aberlour a'bunadh ?

markjedi1 wrote:

@cave, Aberlour is releasing the a'bunadh in batches, small numbers of bottles straight from the cask. More info at http://www.aberlour.com/abunadh/.

Because whisky isn't made in a continuous pipeline, distillers produce it in batches, sometimes weeks (maybe month) apart.

Though they are creating the same spirit, there are often subtle differences between batch numbers (due to external variables like water source, temperature etc)... thats my take anyway.

Just found a bottle of Aberlour a'bunadh (batch no. 26) tucked away at the back the shelf in my local store. Win.

Heard that batch 28 is available in sweden now. Well. Just have to settle down with number 22. Cheers!

Any idea how old Aberlour a'bunadh is at the time of bottling?

3rd Feb 2010 14:34 @reply Jean-Luc

tonc wrote:

That is unknown because it is a blend of different casks (probably at different ages) because rhe master blender attempts to get the same a'bunadh taste profile with each batch. This means that the casks and ages mixed can vary from batch to batch.

One of my top three for certain.

I have a bottle of Batch 27 and a bottle of Batch 28.

And Jean-Luc...yes, Batch 26 is definite win. Good on ya!

I think that batch 29 is just starting to appear, although that could well be misremembering what I saw in Waitrose yesterday.

I'm off to an Aberlour tasting this evening, which should be nice :)

Well, I had a batch 30 at the tasting and it looks like I was wrong and that is now in the shops. Not tried any previous batches, but it was rather excellent.

I also tried a 26 year old sherry cask sample - it was rather like being hit in the face with an oar, after rowing over a lake of sherry. Nice though...

@cowfish "it was rather like being hit in the face with an oar, after rowing over a lake of sherry" nice analogy or is it a metaphor (I never know)...

@LeFrog It's simile. Metaphor generally seems to be a bit more subtle, something I don't do so much :)

Huh. @antihero, we're still on batch 28 in Ontario, too. I've never tasted any other batch, but I am thrilled by the 28! It's really spectacular. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for 29 and 30, though.

@dbk Man...28 is brilliant, isn't it? I have two bottles of 27 at home too. One I will be opening this month with the club. Looking forward to it.
