Glendronach 14 Year Old Sauternes Finish

This GlenDronach from the ‘wood finish'-range got aced on Sauternes, a sweet French dessert wine. It was released in August 2010. I previously tasted a Tullibardine and BenRiach on Sauternes, which were quite to my liking. Hopefully this GlenDronach is equally enchanting.

Oh, the nose surely is. The wine has clearly put it’s stamp on this whisky. It’s very fruity with melon, grapes and apples on cinnamon. I like this!

It’s very creamy on the palate and offers vanilla, candied apricots, banana and even some kiwi. Very, very sweet, but in a positive way.

The finish is creamy and lingering with a bitter death from the oak.

Another whisky on Sauternes that I really like. But really!

GlenDronach 14 yo Sauternes (46%, OB 2010)

Nose: typical Sauternes influence: figs and melon with a buttery touch. Also a distinct hint of noble rot (botrytis) and flour. Apples with cinnamon. Honeysuckle.

Mouth: sweet and honeyed with lots of barley sugar. Hints of vanilla and white chocolate.

Finish: sweet, creamy and spicy.

This shares a lot of qualities with BenRiach 16yo Sauternes and should be a interesting alternative for Glenmorangie Nectar d’Or.

@WhiskyNotes : You say it's a good alternative for Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or, but the Nectar is a lot cheaper. Do you think this Glendronach is better than the Glenmorangie? Thanks.

I wrote a review for the Glenmorangie too, and I gave it a higher score ;-)

GlenDronach 14 year old Sauternes finish, 46% ABV, £40

Nose: Sweet, juicy and luscious. Apricots, Wild Berries, and honeysuckle. Some Wininess, reminds me of ice wine, with fruits dipped in it. a Very scrumptious and sexy nose. no doubt about it. Sauternes, we love you.

Palate: Sweet, sultanas dipped in liqueur, Chocolate fudge, the fruits hit you on the second wave. Clear Desert wine notes going on here (not a real surprise eh?) . A very rewarding and lush palate.

Finish :Sweet, milk chocolate, and fruits(sultanas, sweet berries) that linger.

Bottom line:

I very sweet, desert time whisky. will make your mouth water, it’s so chwey sweet, and fruity. a realy lovely Sauternes finish, very different from other Sauternes finishes we’ve tried recently.
