A veteran whisky lover. Who felt he must go and pay homage to nine or so distilleries in Islay...and guess what, this is exactly what we did, with good friends, in April 2012.

Now with a taste for distilleries - Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Bowmore - I visited Gavle in Sweden to visit Mackmyra in May 2012, and also went to the pearl of the Orosund - the island of (H)ven, also in Sweden, in Sept 2012 to visit Backafallsbyn (Spirit of Hven). Then back to Scotland in April 2013 for Balblair, Glenmorangie and Dalmore! And then to Yamazaki (Suntory), in Kyoto, Japan, in May 2014. And then back to Sweden, for Box, in Adalen, on the Swedish Bothnian "High Coast", in June 2014 (their tremendous whiskyfestivalen).

Unbelievably, a visit to a SWISS distillery next with Eric and Joe, while we were all in Switzerland in June 2015 - Säntis Singel Malt. http://www.saentismalt.com/

And many, many whisky fairs in the UK (all in London - Whisky Exchange whisky show) and in Sweden (Goteborg, Stockholm, Linkoping, Box).

A special interest in the most promising of the developing Swedish distilleries - Smogen, Hven, Mackmyra and Box - including befriending all their owners and distillers! Pity I still can't speak a word of Swedish..... and that is still the case late in 2017! Well, maybe one word - tack. And another - Skal (pronounced skol or school if in schooner = Skane).

Been back to Box in Juli 2016, and now planning the trip to Smogen (not yet managed it.....even by Summer 2017). The whiskies there are super special. Very much also wanting to get back to Islay and Scotland - been much too long. But from December 2016 I am now spending more time in Edinburgh, so that will surely help!!

WELL now, an academic trip to DENMARK (KPN and Jutland) in January 2017 allowed me to visit Braunstein in Koge Bay Denmark, and then Stauning in Jutland. Both promising, in different ways.

WELL now again, the latest 2017 visits to distilleries were indeed back in Scotland - to Auchentoshen, The Deanston (a real treat), Glengoyne and Tullibardine. So that is now 18 I think - 11 in Scotland, 3 in Sweden, 2 in Denmark, and one each in Japan and Switzerland.
