Bruichladdich 15 Year Old 1st Edition

The First Edition of Bruichladdich 15 year old was a bit of a disappointment. The greatness of Laddie Ten had given me high hopes about every Bruichladdich I could stumble upon.

As my scoring shows, Bruichladdich 15 yrs wasn't bad either. It was interesting but a bit too delicate in every way. Complex without character if that makes sense at all...

Like an artsy film that manages to lose you midway through the movie and grab you back in at the end. That's what happened with me when I watched Eyes Wide Shut for the first time. It is also a movie that kept getting better after seeing it again. I'm pretty sure that Bruichladdich 15 yrs might be one those whiskys, that you'll need to try again and again before you really like it.

I think that Bruichladdich 15 yrs would grow on me if I had a full bottle of it. Sampling doesn't do the justice.

Nose: At first when taking a whiff from the bottle, gives you a very strong, liqueury raspberry marmalade. On the glass it's much more mellow: minty and dark sugared fruits with hints of oak and spices.

Taste: Woody dry with fruits and malt on the palate and mint on the background.

Finish: Long and quite dry, peaty, fruity and malty.

Balance: Very gentle in every step of the way. In my opinion, not a big character but an interesting mix of dry and sweet.
