Bruichladdich Organic 2003 Anns An T-Seann Doigh

This lite honey colored charmer has a lot going on, in a simple way. The nose is like creamy milk and whisky mixed. The whole thing reminds me of the field near the dairy farm where I grew up. Old cut hay bails and cows milk. But the taste becomes fruity like a marmalade spread. It lingers and finishes with a little spice. A real nice Organic malt.

@GlassBottle

Nose: the scent is warm and soft. There's fructose sweetness (citrus and apples), as well as floral notes and a surprisingly delicate smokey undercurrent.

Palate: Citrus and orchard fruits on the attack, a fairly creamy whisky but a bit of cereal (maybe barley) edge. A hint of oak.

Body: Initially fairly smooth, comfortable to hold in the mouth. However this creaminess gives way as the dram develops and becomes a little harsh.

Finish: Finally the sort of smoke you would expect from an Islay whisky begins to force its way through; still not dominant, but a happy conclusion to a decent dram.

Overall, this is a good whisky showing signs of maturity beyond its years, and I certainly like the 'organic' concept behind it. I'd be interested to try the new organic releases and see how they compare.

@WTC

this is in our islay tasting. Its the second organic we have had, the other being the benromach, and given they have both been matured in virgin oak wood clearly dominates. Personally (tony) I prefer the benromach, the wood is better integrated.

Dominic's review "Nose: Not particularly assertive, with some lemon, barley, wet hay, and damp woody notes. Like opening the cricket hut or boat shed at the end of winter. Not particularly unpleasant, but you're not sure what's lurking in there.

Palate: The result of the virgin oak is a massive white pepper hit. And because the oak will quickly overwhelm the malt it cannot stay there too long. So the malt here is very young, still green, rootsy and resinous. The resulting whisky is intriguing rather than wonderful. It's not totally balanced, and the spice and barley bicker constantly. But it's an unusual and challenging experience and not to be missed.

Finish: Spicy"

I found adding a drop of water adds fruity flavours and smooths it out. Works ok with dark chocolate as well...
