Compass Box Juveniles

The first edition of the Compass Box Juveniles (2004) was part of the Canto Cask range and was bottled at a cask strength of 53,9% exclusively for the Juveniles Wine Bar on the Rue de Richelieu in Paris (owner Tim Johnston and John Glaser go way back). The original Juveniles consisted of Brora, Glen Ord and Longmorn. In 2014, Compass Box gives the whisky a new lease of life in France and Belgium (only around 200 bottles, though!) at drinking strength. The recipe is new: Clynelish 9 Year Old and Glen Elgin 15 Year Old.

It is sweet, but more candy like than fruity. Sugared peach candy and sour treats. Some Turkish Delight, pineapple, banana and loads of vanilla. Yep, the nose makes me feel like I am standing in a candy shop, but little else is going on.

It has a medium body and is immediately syrupy sweet. Again that candy like quality. Banana is now more outspoken. I have to admit that I am not too fond of this.

The finish is medium long and remains sticky sweet.

Very quaffable, sure, but I do not feel like I have tried a whisky. More a liqueur, so sweet and syrupy. Pisang Ambon Whisky?
