An old whisky retailer said me "if you want to buy bottles of whisky to collect... you'll never pay more than £50 per bottle and than wait.......; if you wanna buy bottle to drink, there is no price! What do you think about?

@Andrea, In complete agreement to that "old whisky retailer." I believe that the golden age of whisky "investments" is over. Prices of mid and high price range whiskies are through the roof and peaking. BRIC countries are buying up everything "luxury" cashing in on high commodity prices. I can't wait for another major fall in Markets so these crazy whisky prices will fall back to earth.

I agree with Ralfy. Buy something you like and enjoy and don't get caught up in the hype.

Agreed! There are huge values in great whiskey's out there that I would pay double and even triple for and there are many expensive whiskey's worth the expense also. This is a great down to earth post.

However, any ideas in the first category (Great and Affordable)? Ill start...Macallan 10 yo Fine Oak or a Rittenhouse Rye 100 ($20), fantastic!

@Andrea, How did you like the Kilchoman Spring? And have you tried the Summer release yet? I've yet to try any Kilchoman but have been hearing good things.

Here in the States, excellent bourbons are easily fetched for under $100usd, like George T Stagg and the BTAC (if you purchase early before the mark-ups). I was lucky enough to buy a case(6bottles) of Parker's Heritage First Edition ABV 61.3% at $80usd/ea. They are now retailing for over $300usd now. The BRICs are also buying up all great bourbons that have been hyped. I just hope they don't raise the price on my fave Eagle Rare 10...currently priced at $23.99usd

I guess Chuck Cowdery is correct in saying that "Kentucky is the new Napa."

@whiskyshiba ..I tasted Kilchoman Inaugural Release, Kilchoman Autumn and Spring Release..... Very good drams but Inaugural Release is the best... that's incredible..... young but impressive.... peat is justly inserted in the dram.

In Italy Burbou is equal to Jack Daniels..... There is not knowledge and possibility to find good bottles
