Ralfy just made a very controversial video about how he drinks whisky. The subject has a cringe factor among connosrs--enough so that Ralfy calls it "The Great Whisky Taboo."

Here is Ralfy's controversial video:

I just bought a pair of "grappa" glasses to try out. They are almost the same height as glencairns (minus the stem) but have a different shaped flute. A little taller chamber above a kind of pot bellied roundish shape for the beverage to rest.

I will report about how these grappas work out, especially when nosing scotch and bourbon. They certainly have a little more room to "swirl" whisky than sherry glasses.

I am puzzled by how my glencairn collection has seemed to multiply on its own. I bought five and now I have seven. Is it possible that two mated at some point and had a litter up in the cupboard? None of my friends own glencairns, and I have absolutely no memory of taking a few extra glasses home. Go figure

I saw some mini glencairns when I ws at Spirit of Toronto. Apparently they are sold only to the trade people. But maybe they are the offspring you mention and grow into full size with time.

I drink my whisky in a Glencairn. I nose and sip neat, unless I already know how I like it. So for something like spring bank CS I will add some water right from the start and then let it open up.

At the Amrut Masterclass Ashok used stemmed glasses and had us cup the glass to warm the whisky. It absolutely transformed the whiskers in the glass so I plan to try that with the next Amrut I try. Either in a wine glass similar to what he used, or in a brandy snifter. Maybe I'll try it in both

The grappa glasses are too small for a full shot of whisky. They are nice, but the round belly of the glass is a bit too small. Still, when I prefer less than a full shot, they will be nice. Sometimes, I want to have less than a full shot, especially in mid day as a liquid "siesta"

@markjedi1 And when you're trying a dram with an ABV of 56.9 or 60.2%? Stil without water? Sorry, Mister Jedi, but you'll never discover the real, good taste i.m.o.o.!

Most whisky I enjoy neat, add drops of water as needed. However, there are a couple I do enjoy more on the rocks: Glenlivet 12 and Johnnie Walker Black. I always drink those two on the rocks.

Straight up in a Glencairn. No water regardless of the ABV.

I've been known to have a Highball in Japan.
