At Whisky Live in Paris Penderyn launched a "new" expression. Called Legend this is the first offering from the Welsh Distillery with a Dragon on it (this is a fairly big point made by Penderyn).
The odd thing is though, this isnt a new expression. This is actually Penderyn 41. I mean literally, this is exactly the same stuff made in the same way, stored in Ex-Buffalo Trace then finished in Madeira casks. Bottled at 41%. I am not sure I understand the point in re-badging an expression.
That being said it's still a great entry level Welsh Whisky. Pale Straw in colour, the nose offers sweet honey, vanilla, tropical fruits and a creamy note. In the mouth it starts off sweet, bananas, vanilla, light fruits and slightly musty. The finish is short, light pepper and honeyed.
Its very nice but a bit light. An archetypal entry level malt that is great to drink that goes down really easily but is not quite as finessed as other expressions in the range.
@OlJas Basically yes. The Dragon is the national symbol of Wales. It is to Wales what the star spangled banner and the word freedom is to the USA.
Ha!
