I don't get the point. Just tell the guys where u bought it, I am sure they can help you more than we do. And I deeply hope that u won't blame all german whisky sellers right now...

It's not the liquor store's fault (probably). Here's an account of this happening to someone in the US: thought he purchased Jameson 12, got a standard Jameson in the canister. He went back to the store, and was lucky enough to get something back.

Wills, you misunderstood me. Me saying "I won't go back there anytime soon" is because I do not live in Germany, or anywhere near the store I bought the bottles. Thus going back there makes no sense; I would spend more on gas alone than the 20 euro I might get re-imbursed.
And as for blaming all German whisky sellers... of course not, in no way is that implied in my post (probably the same misunderstanding). It was a supermarket by the way and if I would blame anyone it would be the person who likely did an old switcheroo and has a very cheap bottle of 18yo with a non-matching container sitting in his cabinet...
I posted this because I was wondering whether someone had a similar experience once, be it in Germany, The Netherlands, Argentina or Timbouktou... I don't care. Just a discussion topic, no critique of any nation's whisky sellers in general... God no.

@Antallodos Yes, I completely misunderstood you. Just sounded wrong to me. Well at least I get it now ;)

Not going to lie but since you found a 12 yr in a 18 yr container leads me to believe that someone wanted an 18 yr for the 12 yr price sorry for the bad luck

Yup, I am pretty sure that is what happened. I do not blame the store whatsoever.
Anyway, in an "I can always try" attempt I e-mailed that particular supermarket. And what do you know... instant response, and they offered to reimburse me for the price difference the next time I visit! as I won't be going there anytime soon (I don't live close to it), I asked whether a friend of mine can use the discount. Now that's what I call service! And on this very positive note I will of course not abstain from providing a little word-of-mouth advertising: it was at Real in Germany (Bochum-Riemke to be more specific).

@Antallodos That's really nice, gratz! You have a friend there who can use it? I didn't know they are selling the 18yo in supermarkets too.
I'm really happy for you!

Thanks! I'll find someone to give it to, perhaps as an introduction to Whisky. Or use it myself at a festival I am going to soon.

I work in a shop, that sells a large range of whisky, we have had to security tag the bottle so that switch outs don't happen, basically you have to look at the bottle so you can de-tag it, and make sure that the contents match the container. its a very common issue. id take it back to the store and tell them that the whisky inside the tube was different to the one marked. they will either exchange the bottle or refund the difference.

I was just archiving some recent Glenfiddich purchases and I noticed that one 18 Years old container had a 12 Year old bottle in it... Hmm, about 20 euro's overpaid...
Good thing I got them cheap and bought several (4 x 18, 2 x 15, 1 x 12), but it still kinda sucks. It was in Germany (I live in the Netherlands), so I won't be going back there anytime soon. Lesson learned: ALWAYS CHECK WHAT'S INSIDE!!!
Anyone else ever had this?
