Masterofmalt has a special section for this. You can either search your birth year or your age. Not a whole lot of choice though (for my age/date: 1981). And of course you will find a lot of IB's, which makes finding reviews difficult.
30 is a nice round number. I suppose there are some really interesting OB's, of which you are likely to find more reviews.

Independent bottles are going to be the most affordable route...I picked up a 40 year old from McPhail's collection for under your limit.

@Nolinske As Cpstecroix has already suggested, Independent bottlers will be your friend in this hunt, Gordon & MacPhail, Douglas Laing, Abbey Whisky's Secret Casks, and then official bottlings, Glenfarclas 30 year old would likely be your best bets.
The problem that I expect you might encounter is importing a bottle. I'm not sure if it's easy/legal to import whisky into Louisiana.
Do let us know what you decide to pick up though! And good luck on your hunt!

You have a great importer as a neighbor: Sazerac Company, Inc. • Metairie, LA 70002. Of course that doesn't mean any nearby retailers carry their products.
One of the product lines they carry is Glenfarclas. Right now they're not showing a 30 year old or a 1985 on their inventory, but it changes. One they have now is a 1982, and it looks like that one retails for around $330 around the country.
I've been on the hunt for a really nice, but not bank-breaking 30 year old for our whisky club. Tough sledding. I do tend to think Glenfarclas offers one of the best values for your money. Happy hunting.

@SquidgyAsh @cpstecroix @two-bit-cowboy thanks all for the replies and I have done a good bit of looking today and right now the glenfarclas 30 seems to be in the lead but it's a long race. I agree with squigy that I may have to see about the ease/leagality of shipping the glen from overseas if I go that route. Additionally thank you very much cowboy. I can't believe I forgot about them I will make sure to keep an eye out in case they have anything come up, and if they do I'll let you know since you are on the hunt as well. Thanks all and please feel free to keep any and all suggestions/tips/reccommendations coming!

I wish you were located closer to the northern border. Our beloved Alberta Distillers released a 30 YO 100% rye a few years ago for - are you ready for this?! - CAN$50 - yep, and it is dynamite! I hope this happens again in my llifetime. The occasional bottle can be found on store shelves.

@paddockjudge don't tell me such things! I will see if one of my uncles in Milwaukee happens to stumble across an old dusty.

I recently got the Balblair 1983 OB which is a 30 year old and within your budget in the UK. Don't know if you can find it in Baton Rouge though.

@Kirsch thanks for the reply! I will look into trying to find it online I have not seen that anywhere near Baton Rouge.

Like many others have mentioned, I would try the independent bottlers first and Glenfarclas for best bang for your buck.

You may want to check Binny's Beverage Depot - www.binnys.com.
In the single malts section, saw a Signatory Dallas Dhu 1980 30YO, a Tomatin 30YO, a Black Bull 30YO (blend), a 1992 Old Malt Cask Inchgower 30YO, a 1978 Old Malt Cask Glen Grant 30YO, all in your price range.
Binny's locations appear to be all in Illinois, buti f you have uncles in Milwaukee, it might not be too far out of the way for them...?
As far as picking up an Alberta Premium 30YO, you are probably out of luck - only 700 cases made, and from the press release in May 2011, only released in Canada (BC, AB, SK, MB and ON) beamglobal.com/m/news/…
Good luck on the hunt!

Ralfy's new review #421 is Tomatin 30 year old. He says it is a value buy. I see K & L Wine list it for $230.00 I am not advertizing for K & L but at least you know it's available. The review is at: www.youtube.com/watch Check it out Jonesz

This is a tad more than your $200-300 range but there's the Benromach 30 Year Old @ masterofmalt.com/whiskies/benromach/…

I will be turning 30 years old in 2015. I want to begin the process of finding a 30 year old scotch to drink on my birthday. I do not need for it to be an exact 1985, but I just would like a 30 year old scotch. I know this is not going to come cheap, but I was hoping to get some help from all the great members at Connosr for internet Whisky sellers that I could bookmark to search from time to time. Additionally, if anyone knows any places in Louisiana that carry such high end scotches please let me know. I am located in Baton Rouge and trips around the state are in the offing for this hunt. I would really like to keep it under $200-300 USD but again as much search has just begun....I'm not sure if this is doable.
Thanks in advance!
