I have also wished this were possible. I have submitted reviews and then noticed grammar and spelling mistakes and that bothers me too!

Proof-reading seems to be a lost art. Maybe read it through before posting. And please, people, stop using then when you mean than, as in "this is better then that" etc. I tend to be a bit of a grammar and spelling purist, too. The internet has degraded language skills to an appalling extent.
If you have second thoughts about your review or your whisky has changed with time, just do a re-review, it doesn't necessarily invalidate the original review if that's the way you felt at the time.

To be honest. grammar and spelling mistakes bother me much more when it was me who made them, and I've made a few. That's why I put forth this suggestion. I don't think we should tell others on this site proofread and edit their reviews, although I may start to do it myself. It's not an academic site. It's a casual forum where people can relax, unwind, speak casually in their own voice without the fear of being judged by others. That being said, I really do hate going back over my reviews and finding various silly mistakes I've made. Also, I've had a couple bottles go bad on me and I'd like the ability to update the review itself, rather than sticking 'buyer beware' in the comments section underneath. I@BlueNote: Rewriting our reviews is a solid idea, but if the site were to give us the ability to edit our own contributions, I think the review section would be a much less cluttered place than if everyone re-posted an entire write-up simply to replace "then" with "than" (which I totally agree is annoying).
I appreciate your thoughts, gentlemen. And once again, this isn't a campaign, just some users putting forth suggestions on how to improve an already great site.

For correcting grammar or typing mistakes I would love to have an edit function. On the other side I like the fact that old reviews stay unchanged. Just to have an idea how we were thinking about a bottle some years ago. If my opinion changes over the years, I would go and add this info in the comments. Victor for example is doing this regularly as he checks his long time opened bottles for oxidation. I like this a lot. But ofc we could do this also when the page has an edit function, so I like the idea. I hope nobody will resubmit a review because of some typing faults. This would be really confusing overall.

A simple edit function would be a wonderful addition to an already excellent site!
Slainte!

I'm all for it, although I can foresee some potential problems.
There's slightly more than 80 members who have written at least five reviews, which means there are more than 8000 members for whom review writing may not be a priority. (No offense to anyone -- some of the best reviews on the site are by those who've contributed only a few.) I'm not experienced enough in website construction to know the particulars, but you may be requesting a massive amount of work for the sake of 1% of the community.
Correcting spelling and grammar, and other such minor tweaks, would be no big deal, but what about the relevancy of old comments if we perform major overhauls on the reviews? Would we have the option of deleting followup comments if they no longer applied to our revised reviews? Would this even be a wise thing to do? There's some valuable information and interesting discussion among the comments, after all.
Frankly, I'm embarrassed by some of my earlier reviews, and I'd like to delete them entirely, or rewrite them from scratch. My review of Aberlour A'bunhda was as ill-informed and naive as can be, yet the comments I received on it were terrific and might provide some useful guidance for newcomers to A'bunhda or sherried whiskies in general. If I wrote a new review, those followup comments would make no sense, yet I'd want to retain them somehow.
Just my rambling thoughts on the matter. Despite my concerns, yeah, I'd like to be able to do it too.

@WhiskyBee Good points you bring up. The bottom line is, there's probably a ton of reasons why the site admin has done it the way they did, and unless there's a very good reason to change, they probably won't, and I don't think I could argue too hard for the change. It would just be nice in a perfect world.
BTW I almost submitted this comment with "to" instead of "too." A little proof-reading caught the mistake. ;-)

This is perhaps a bit unrelated to the previous points of discussion, but I would appreciate an easier cellar management function, and easier review search function. For instance, when looking at my cellar/cabinet, bottles appear in a Last In-First Out/listed way. I would find it easier if there were different ways to organize it -- so all the bottles of the same expression appear together, with an ability to view things alphabetically, by region, or something to that effect.
When I search for reviews, it's not the easiest to find reviews for expressions added manually, or to find specific expressions to see the various community reviews for it.

I think it is a great suggestion. Being a non-native speaker (I'm Flemish), I often make typos or grammar mistakes, I'm sure. I can imagine this must be annoying to native speakers (and allow me to take this opportunity to apologize). I do write my tasting notes in Word first and do a check (and then copy/paste it in the Connosr site), but there are always some things we overlook. Can it be done, @Jean-Luc?

I think adding real time chat would take this site from excellent to over the top. Can you just imagine some of the interesting discussions that could take place and the interaction between members

@PeterG7 Another fine suggestion, albeit somewhat off topic. Perhaps it would be best to start a new discussion for that particular suggestion?

@numen - It is possible to organize your cabinet any way you want. It's a little time consuming and there's a few steps involved, but it's not difficult. My cabinet is categorized (Scotch, Irish, American) and alphabetized. Yeah, I'm a little OCD. Leave me alone.........;-)
It's a little off-topic for this thread, so I'll PM instructions to you. (As soon as you respond to my buddy request. ;) If anyone else is interested, send me a PM.

@markjedi1. You have nothing to apologize for my friend. Your English, like that of most north western Europeans, is as good as, or better than that of many native speakers.

@WhiskyBee. Good point about the old reviews. However, I would argue that simply because the option to edit is there doesn't mean your obliged to do so. If you find value in your old A'bunadh review, by all means leave it alone. If we overhaul an entire review, the comments might seem somewhat incongruous, I agree. But that's something that should be left up to the reviewer. After all, it is his/her own voice being put out there. Ultimately, I think the majority of edits would be simply to get rid of typos or add an additional point or two, and I think the website's history would remain largely intact.
Just my two cents.

@hunggar - Agreed. My concern regarding major overhauls was probably a little self-serving, as I suspect few members would bother with them. Any major revisions could include an explanatory note regarding irrelevant comments. Dilemma solved.

I complained about this too earlier this week, after one of my reviews got posted double somehow. And I know this has happened to other members as well. @Jean-Luc said they are looking into it, and maybe they could give us a limited window of time to go back and delete/edit our reviews. And personally I think that would be the best solution. Then you can delete doubles, or give it a good proof read, or just enter that extra line you have to do here to separate paragraphs. But many of the comments made to reviews are in then selves valuable contributions to this site, and if you can delete your reviews indefinitely you also have the power to delete the work someone else has put in under the comment section of that review. And if you get to edit you can render comments nonsensical (is that even a word I don't know?). So, my vote is for time limited editing/deleting.

@NilsG Good point. Other sites (like LinkedIn, allow a 15 minute timeframe to edit/delete your posts/comments). Nonsensical is a great word, but mistakenlier, I am not too sure about? LOL!

It's a good thing the scoring points system for our cabinets is editable. Anyway all suggestions here are pretty good. I for example had a very bad first impression of Laphroaig 10 yo, but then happened to try it again six months ahead and got the exact opposite impression!!!

One more suggestion: I'd like to be able to add pictures of whiskies not in the database to our reviews, as we can with the whiskies in our cabinets. We get either the plain, generic bottle, or, sometimes, the wrong bottle entirely with our reviews. My review of FEW Spirits Rye is adorned with a picture of Kavalan Solist. Huh?

So many good suggestions and there are some other threads with good ideas too.
Hope the guys from connosr will give us some insight, if they plan to change something. If I had a clue about web designing I would definitely help you guys!
@WhiskyBee lol I guess the only option to change the order in the cabinet is to remove all bottles and add all once again. Did you write a script or something or how do you make it? Sounds like a ton of work if you change just one bottle in your cabinet.

@markjedi1 I tried to give you a thumbs up, but it became a thumbs down by mistake.
... which brings me to another point about improving this site: At least from an iPhone it's difficult to hit the thumbs mark, very often people vote the oposite they wanted to by mistake. I wish we were allowed to change our opinions, like FB allows you to unlike.

Editing post, adding pics and a chat feature would be a positive addition to this fine site

@WhiskyBee, great idea about uploading pics for our reviews. A lot of us have rare or obscure bottles which aren't preloaded into the connosr database. Being able to find those images and upload them would be a wonderful option until connosr finally gets their own image for them. It's always nice to be able to show what we're talking about. I think most members worth their salt would know to find (or take) an image with a white backdrop in accordance with the visual theme of the website.

A feature request if I may: When replying to one's OWN post in discussion threads, do not insert the "" (replying to one's own post is probably a mistake - either the intention was to reply to another's post or to simply add a post without reference to one's self - in either case, it doesn't really make sense to include that text to reference one's self).

Oh dear let's try that again.. do not insert the "[atsymbol][myusername]" text.. of course the triangle brackets I attempted to use would be removed for obvious security reasons.

I love this site. It's a fun, open-minded, and friendly place where like-minded people can get together and share their passion for all things whisky. But... Something has been bothering me lately. We can't change our reviews once they've been written.
This is a problem for a few reasons. One, whisky changes after the bottle's been open, therefore a review written over a freshly opened bottle may not be the same as a review over a not-so-fresh bottle. Also, simple things like grammar mistakes can't be corrected (I'm a teacher so that bothers me). Third, whiskies change in the long run. I'm not talking about freshly opened vs. opened a while ago. Batches change. What might have been true of a release in 2010 may no longer be true anymore in 2013.
What I'm proposing is that people who wrote the reviews can go back and do some patchwork. Update the review, add valuable new information, or simply iron out any errors we may have missed the first time round.
Keep in mind, I'm proposing this with the utmost respect to connosr. You guys have the best online whisky forum by far, and the community here is nothing short of wonderful. Simply a humble suggestion from an avid user of the site. I'm not trying to start a campaign here, just a suggestion. Curious what other users may think about it...
