Liquid Sun is one of the labels marketed by the German Indie The Whisky Agency (which has quite a few series with wonderful labels, like Butterflies, Sharks, Fossils, Flowers, Groteque Crocs, Romantique, Moody Lions, and so on). It makes one wonder how large their warehouses are. This is their sunny Ardmore from 1992.
The nose is rather typical Ardmore, I would say. A full basked of green apples, some mint, a spoonful of soot, freshly cut grass and a canister of butane gas. After a few minutes, some grapefruit rears its fruity head. Nice development.
The attack is very pleasant, but more aggressive than I anticipated. Very punchy! Mouthcoating. It balances the smoke and fruit perfectly. It is a battle of grapefruit versus butane gas, just like on the nose. Mild spices like ginger and pepper are cheering on the sidelines. I like this. A lot.
The finish is medium in length on citrus, sweet peat and pepper.
Although it was the least complex of the Ardmore 1992 whiskies I have tried of late, it was the best.
