Ardnamurchan 2015 Tasting Set Cask #371

Here is another single cask sample that will not be released as such, but is meant to show the house style. This is an ex-bourbon cask that was filled with Ardnamurchan’s peaty spirit.

The nose certainly shows some peat, but all in good measure for the top notes here are white fruit and grapefruit, honey with a hint of potato skins (no off note!). After breathing some Granny Smith kicks in, as does some icing sugar and green garden herbs. Thyme and rosemary (which I also had with the inaugural release). Quite young, clearly. Very lively.

Very quaffable despite the high ABV. Sweet on apples and pears, vanilla, honey and then some sea salt and smoke. The green herbs return, joined by some pepper.

The finish is medium long, very sweet and peppery. At the death the herbs come around once more and leave your mouth fairly dry.

Very interesting, but I do seem to prefer the unpeated malts.
