Cask 670 was also put to sleep with peated spirit, but this is a former oloroso cask, which the color clearly confirms. And the difference with the ex-bourbon cask could not be bigger.
On the nose I get some typical sherry notes: plums, dates and caramel, but also the typical green herbs like thyme and rosemary – although these are clearly overpowered by notes of coffee, tiger balm, cloves, chili peppers, a drop of balsamic vinegar and a bonfire on the beach. Gravy and candied syrup after a few moments.
Dark and sweet, sturdy and a bit dirty on the palate. Tobacco, cloves, plums, tabasco! But also a tad alcoholic.
Long finish on smoke, green herbs and chewing tobacco.
This clearly has potential but needs some added sweetness. Having said that: quite impressive for such a young whisky.
