At the end of 2017, this small batch bottling by Arran appeared on the Belgian market, 900 bottles strong. It contains whisky distilled in 2007 and after maturation on bourbon casks got a finish on rum casks. You cannot tell by the color, though.

The nose is sweet on barley sugar and baked apples, but unfortunately not much else. With a little fantasy, I get a long lost almond, but that is about it. There is nothing wrong with this nose, but it is far from complex.

It is creamy, that’s nice. And somewhat spicy too. Think black and red peppers and some liquorice. Then again some sweet barley, apples and maybe a sultana (no trace of the almond, so maybe I just imagined it?). A nice touch of woodsmoke though. But again not complex nor challenging.

Nothing changes in the rather short finish: barley sugar, apples and some pepper.

Fairly simple Arran that will please people with a sweet tooth. Around 70 EUR.
